Outside Area

In the Swan Centre we follow the National Curriculum where possible at the appropriate level.

We teach English, reading , maths, PSHE, Communication and social skills in the morning through structured learning.

In the afternoon the pupils study the foundation subjects following a two year curriculum cycle. Whilst the learning is arranged in topics, each topic has a 'hero subject' to build a firm foundation in history, geography and science. 

Each classroom has a ‘Quiet Room’ attached to the main classroom which is kept distraction free to enable the pupils to focus and engage with the learning activity.

We also take into account pupil’s individual sensory needs which may mean incorporating movement breaks, or various other interventions throughout the day. We make sure our learning is real, meaningful and concrete, with a focus on real life skills, including regular trips into the local community.
