Food in School
We keep our children with allergies safe and everyone in the school community plays a role in this. We educate children as to why they must not trade food with their friends or bring foods in, such as nuts, which others may be allergic to. Families play a vital role in this by not sending nuts or nut products into school, either as part of packed lunches or for bake sales and events.
To exclude every allergen from school is impossible so we do not claim to be an allergen free school but we do aim to educate all our children to take responsibility for ensuring we are all allergen aware and think about the foods we bring into school.
Children who have school lunches are given a choice of three main cooked meals, one of which is a vegetarian option. Our school meal provider, Taylor Shaw, is able to offer allergen advice about their menus and will work with families to produce a menu that suits your child. They try to offer something for everyone; with a mixture of old favourites and new dishes. The menu conforms to all the government regulations regarding nutritional content so you can be sure your child will be eating a balanced meal whenever they have a school lunch. Packed lunches should be sent in a named container and, of course, the meal should be nutritionally-balanced and of an appropriate quantity. We educate the children to adopt healthy lifestyles so please do not include sweets and fizzy drinks and, for safety reasons, nuts, glass bottles or cans.
Once you have decided on the provision you want for your child at lunchtime, we would ask you to maintain that option for half a term. Any changes should be notified in writing to the office and made on the first day after a holiday.
Your child may be eligible for a free school meal. Please click here to apply online with London Borough of Hounslow.
