Safeguarding and Child Protection
At Strand on the Green Junior School we fully recognise our responsibilities for child protection and safeguarding. We aim to ensure that all children are effectively safeguarded from the potential risk of harm and that the safety and wellbeing of all children is of the highest priority in all aspects of our work. We strive to maintain an ethos and atmosphere whereby staff, pupils, parents and governors feel able to articulate concerns comfortably, safe in the knowledge that effective action will be taken as appropriate. We work on the premise that 'It could happen here'.
Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policies apply to all adults, including volunteers, working in or on behalf of the School. We expect that everyone working in or for our School shares the responsibility to keep children safe from harm and abuse and reports any concerns to the Head Teacher, in her role as designated safeguarding lead (DSL). All staff are aware of the need to share information to safeguard children and follow the protocols set out in our data management, child protection and safeguarding policies to ensure this is done with due regard to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare.
Our ViA learning team is made up of volunteers and we ensure that any volunteers are suitable to work with children and all our ViA team undergo the appropriate checks before they being working with children.
We take a proactive approach to safeguarding. Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) includes units on themes and topics such as Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco Education, Sex and Relationships Education, Stranger Danger and e-safety issues. Children are encouraged to explore and discuss these issues in a safe environment. Parents of older children, who undertake specific units of work on sex education, will be informed before the teaching takes place and have the opportunity to view teaching materials.
