Year 6 Water Aid

Year 6 Water Aid

It’s been another eventful and exhausting week in Year 6. Read their own account of what they have been up to: As part of our focus on the Americas, we have been learning about the work of Water Aid in Nicaragua, one of the largest, but poorest countries in the region. We were given the challenge of having to clean some dirty water using a variety of filters and other equipment, including some interesting ‘red herrings’ such as toothpaste! It was a surprisingly difficult task and made us realise what a challenge it must be to purify water on a larger scale. We also carried full buckets of water around the playground. Not only were these very heavy, but it was extremely difficult not to spill any. It helped us to begin to empathise a little with people in Nicaragua and other parts of the world, who have to carry full buckets, like these, very long distances without spilling any as, sadly, they do not have easy access to clean water. We realised how important and life-saving the work of Water Aid is. It is one of the charities we will be raising money for at Harvest Supper.
