Year 3 share their Big Answers

This week has seen the first of our Big Answers with Year 3 setting the bar high and showing the rest of the school how it’s done. It was especially lovely to welcome families into school to hear the children share what they had learned and show off their fantastic work. 3K began by answering the question "How did life progress from the Stone Age to the Iron Age?". The children confidently shared their work, explained the difference between Mesolithic, Neolithic and Palaeolithic and took us on a tour of the progress that was made in this era, leaving us in no doubt that life did indeed progress massively from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Next was the turn of 3M who chose to use their retrieval skills to answer their big Geography question from last term "Why is Norway one of the happiest countries in the world?". Focussing firstly on the geography of Norway, 3M spoke clearly and confidently about Scandinavia, the arctic circle, tundra and fjords. They took us on a journey to the arctic circle sharing beautiful diary entries painting a stunning picture of the northern lights. Finally they explained articulately why they had come to the conclusion that Norway was indeed one of the happiest countries in the world - in fact the fifth happiest! Today was 3S's turn to share their learning this time about their history topic answering their Big Question about progress from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. They began by showing a timeline of the period which clearly showed how huge the Stone Age was in relation to the Iron and Bronze Ages. Taking us on a whistle stop tour of the progress made in each era they showed their skills with spear and bow and arrow, making wattle and daub and communicating through cave art. Finally they invited the audience to "Ask the expert" and dazzled us with their knowledge of the rotary quern and the iron plough. A huge well done to all of Year 3 for writing, practising and performing their Big Answers so confidently!
