World Book Day
The playgrounds and classrooms were alive yet again with our favourite characters from the world of children’s literature to mark another brilliant World Book Day. From The Three Little Pigs to The Mad Hatter, our annual parade had it all, and the outfits once again showed off the impressive breadth of reading interest at Strand. Lots of children and adults at Strand also took the chance to dress up in their pyjamas, and pockets of ‘cosy reading’ could be found across the school throughout the day. All had the chance to visit the Reading Cafe, where year groups mixed to share titles and recommendations while pouring over their favourite reads with a biscuit or two! This year’s event was organised and managed by Mrs Jones and her team of reading ambassadors, who made innovations such as a reading scavenger hunt, which I’m sure will be a permanent feature in years to come. Isla and Diego spent several of their break times designing a the hunt. With help from Zarah and Innaya, they took teams representing each class in year 3 and 4 to see who could complete it fastest. The victors were 3G and 4E, and it was their brilliant organisation skills that made all the difference. Year 5 and 6 will get a chance later this term. A big thank you and well done to everyone involved.
