Pear Sculpture in the Meadow

Today we have been following the installation of an amazing piece of artwork on the field. The piece, a 4ft high pear made using dry stone walling techniques, has been gifted to Strand Schools by a family and was installed today by its creator Tom Trouton, a landscaper. Year 5 were lucky enough to watch Tom at work, seeing how he transformed the natural stone into a work of art. Later in the term Year 5 will be creating their own land art so this was a fantastic opportunity to talk to a real craftsman about the creative process they go through. The location of the pear has been chosen to make sure it can be seen but, as seasons change and the meadow grows, our view will transform: it will disappear into the long grass with only the stalk peeking out over the flowers. A great addition to our site.
