Authors Visit Strand
Katya Balen visited us on Monday. She started by giving Swan an impromptu indoor mudlarking experience and they used the objects they’d found to create some fantastically imaginative stories. For example, Ilyas had a blue crystal that gave him the power to fly and Oskar found a key which he decided was a portal to the beginning of the universe where you could bathe in all the colours of the rainbow! After lunch, the whole school met her in an assembly where she gave us an insight into what it takes to be an author and get a book published.
On World Book Day itself, Iona Rangeley talked to years 3 and 4 about her books and had the children in fits of giggles over the antics of some very funny penguins. There were some ideas for the plot of her next book and a few requests from children who would like to feature in it! A special well done to JJ from 3DR who had chosen to dress up as Einstein.
Both authors answered lots of questions but the most important piece of advice was that the books they read as children inspired them to want to become authors so make sure you keep reading.
