Strand on the Green Junior School

Strand Joins Sport Relief

Next Friday is Sport Relief and Strandites will be playing their part in raising money for this worthwhile
cause as well as keeping fit at the same time. Our usual Sport Relief activity, running a mile, will feature
again this year but with a slight make-over. Running is still an option but, if people prefer, there will also
be an opportunity to cycle the mile instead. Helmets must be worn and children will need to remember to
cycle to school on the designated day. Scooters may not be used. To ensure smooth organisation with
the bikes, there will be a different afternoon for each year group’s mile fundraiser:
• Monday – Year 4
• Tuesday – Year 6
• Wednesday – Year 3
• Thursday – Year 5
As we’ve recently had a sponsored sports event, we are opting for a simple route to raising funds; we
suggest everyone brings in 50p to participate in the mile run or cycle. If any members of staff are feeling
slightly less energetic than the children, there is always an option to do a walk/run combo or even to walk
the whole mile, though the charity contribution for this will need to be considerably higher! Seriously
though, the activity will not be a race but will be a great way to contribute to the Sport Relief cause whilst
having fun exercising.
On the Friday itself, when the rest of the country will be organising Sport Relief events, children are
invited to pay another 50p to come to school dressed up as their favourite sports personality or even just
dressed in sportswear. All money collected across the week will be sent to the Sport Relief appeal.
