Decades Day in Year 6

Year 6 were very lucky to welcome specialist period hairdresser, Sam Smart this morning. Sam is a very talented hairstylist who has worked on exciting projects such as Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice in addition to many feature films, including The Young Victoria. As our history topic is Britain Since the 1930s, it was fantastic to get some expert advice about fashions and hairstyles from different eras. Sam showed us how to create a range of hairstyles, including victory rolls, rag curls and, for the boys, a 1950s Elvis quiff! This looked a lot cooler than the bowl haircuts she explained that boys used to have during the war. Fortunately for Otto, she didn‟t get her scissors out during the demonstration! She also went back in time a bit to teach us how to do Queen Victoria‟s hairstyle, which we will be passing on to Year 5. Afterwards, we all got to have a go at recreating the styles and practising our new skills. As Year 6 were dressed in outfits from a decade of their choice, they looked doubly fantastic. A hugely enjoyable and worthwhile visit. Thank you to Ms Heath for putting us in touch with Sam and a huge thank you to Sam herself for giving us a wonderful morning.
